Q. We are looking at metal roofing to replace our existing cedar roof.
Are metal roofs fire-proof?
A. Galvanized steel, Gavalume metal and copper are considered fire-proof. However, all painted and stone-coated metals will burn.
Metal roofs are given a ‘Class C’, fire rating; the same as organic asphalt shingles. Metal roofing is considered ‘fire resistant’.
Concrete roof tiles and fiberglass shingles are the only ‘Class A’ fire rated products…they will not burn.
